Earlier books focussed on the formation of the WW2 commandos and told of brief hit and run operations which only generally last a day or two. This book has Tom Harsker and his team going into the Sword Beach area 6 months before the invasion on a scouting mission. He then is part of the D-day assault on Normandy and is in Normandy for many weeks as part of a large commando spearhead.A thoroughly enjoyable escapism read.

Another well written book, by Griff Hosker. I enjoy reading this type of war novel..Thus, the rating. Will recommend to friend's and family.
Like all books in this series, it is a light read that is highly entertaining, the characters are well developed and like all books in this series, the spelling editing could be better, but it does not detract much from the story line.
This is the final installment in a 6-part series. I have enjoyed the series; I recommend Combined Operations to anyone who enjoys WW2 fiction. If a reader wants to get into the series, he must start with Part 1 because the rest of the series builds on the earlier stories.
I read the whole series. They’re a little on the rediculous side. But I enjoyed the series. Was pretty much what I was looking for.
There are a few weird typos in each book.
Griff Hoskers novels are always an excellent read and are reasonably priced. They remind me of my childhood in the UK when we had "comics" like the Victor, short stories of fictional army or air force heroes. Keep'em coming Griff, I look forward to the next one in this exciting "Commando" series!
This is the sixth (?) volume in the series, which started just prior to WWII. In this volume, as alluded to in the prior volume, the Commandos are shown to be transitioning from a raiding force to shock troops (similar to the US Army Ranger battalions). It tells the story of the D-day Invasion from the perspective of the landing on Sword Beach, one of the five beaches at Normandy. An enjoyable, easy read, in keeping with the rest of the series.
As a American serviceman, most of us know about D Day, with Omaha and Utah Beach, we never know about the others beaches that were involved. Now I have a better understanding, of the blood, sweat and tears, what are British allies went through. I cheered them all the way, and you will too. Really great read!!
